3. Nationwide Hotel Chain – Individual Franchise Owner – Hotel Vertical (“Triple Play”)(Timeframe: 4 years ago, prior to anyone offering free wi-fi service)

Problem #1: Voice Runner’s customer was building a multi-million dollar new hotel development in one of the fastest growing suburbs of Houston. The owner of this hotel owned multiple hotel franchises across Southeast Texas, most of which were located in large metropolitan areas. The market area in which the owner was developing the new hotel was located in an expensive monopolistic phone area, prior to Voice Runner providing service in this market. The owner was shocked by the cost of phone and internet service for this one particular location, as the owner was accustomed to significantly lower prices with his other hotels.

Problem #2: Historically, any guests phone calls at any hotel can be an extremely expensive proposition. Historically, this has been a huge profit center for hotel owners, but has also created significant ill-will between the hotel operators and the guests paying such exorbitant fees for phone calls.

Problem #3: The hotel owner was new to the location and had not established any relationships with the local community. Additionally, he was from a different nationality and culture and was a bit unsure how he and his new, nationally recognized chain, would be received in this market, nor was he sure if he would be able to keep rooms full at his new development.


Action Taken:

Voice Runner solved these problems by implementing a number of services to create significant savings to the hotel developer and ensure that his property was accepted into the market and remained full.

  1. Voice Runner created a phone and internet solution for both the hotel's office staff and the hotel guests. Voice Runner put together a proposal whereby Voice Runner would supply all of the phone lines and the internet bandwidth for both the hotel staff and the hotel guests at a price lower than what the local monopoly quoted for just the hotel's office phone lines alone.
  2. Voice Runner helped the owner set-up wi-fi hotspots located throughout the multi-story hotel and in the main entrance and breakfast areas to offer free, secure wireless internet.
  3. Voice Runner created a phone & internet solution and helped the developer implement a highly-visible marketing plan to offer free unlimited phone calls for its guests calling throughout Texas and throughout the entire United States, as well as free, unlimited wi-fi internet use during their entire stay at the hotel.
  4. Voice Runner created a customized cable TV line-up specifically designed for the hotel owner. Many times, large national cable TV operators will only sell expensive cable TV packages, regardless of whether a business owner wants to purchase those channels or not. Voice Runner worked with the owner to create a customized business & family-friendly channel line-up to offer both groups of guests staying at the hotel. 
  5. Voice Runner introduced the hotel owner to a number of Voice Runner's existing business customers in the area to give the hotel owner an established base of business and occupancy, prior to even opening his hotel. Voice Runner's customers began referring their business guests and own visiting families to his hotel.
Result:
  1. Saved the hotel developer a significant amount of money vs. the local monopoly on his monthly recurring voice & internet charges.
  2. Created a unique marketing plan around telecommunications, free phone calls & wireless internet - a revolutionary idea in the hotel industry.
  3. Customized cable TV channel line-up saved the hotel owner a significant amount in monthly recurring charges by not ordering TV channels that would not be viewed or were not desired by the owner. 
  4. Occupancy now remains at 99% full on a daily basis, paying massive dividends (ROI) from the offered amenity. Customers applaud free phone & wi-fi service.
  5. Significant amount of repeat guest visits (revenue), in part to the included, free voice/data amenity.
  6. Voice Runner earned the business of the hotel owner's subsequent new hotel developments throughout Texas. As a result, the hotel owner now has free phone calls between each of his hotels, which are technically considered long distance between them.
